Terms of Use

Please ensure you have read and understood these Terms and Conditions before joining the studio. You will be required to sign liability waiver and agree to T&C form. 

 

Please note as the studio is very new and still in development we reserve rights to change terms and conditions as needed. We will give you 10 days notice when terms and conditions change.

Liability waiver :

  • Every user of the studio MUST sign liability waiver that release and discharge any  claims and damages for personal injury, death, or property damage. See the full content of waiver here. 

Use of studio:

  • Clayveryse is not a commercial or production studio and is for educational and recreational use only. There is limited kiln space and so we cannot accommodate large quantities of work to be fired. 

  • We reserve the right to refuse to fire your work and withdraw access to the studio.

  • Please do not touch or move work that does not belong to you.

  • Clayverse cannot accept any responsibility for any unsatisfactory results or damage to your work.

    • Whilst every care is taken in handling and firing your work, please remember that handmade ceramics are affected by a myriad of factors which affect the final outcome, including construction technique, cracking due to shrinkage, thickness of the clay, glaze composition, drying time, stresses during transport and accidents of shared studio.

 

Access for independent use: 

  • Flexible drop in access to the studio between 9am and 9pm Monday - Friday; when the studio is not occupied by Maker's club, private sessions and owners personal use. Weekends and evenings based on the agreement with studio owners. 

  • The key-code you are given is for you only. Do not share the key-code with anyone, doing so will result in loss of privileges.

  • Please record your hours on the attendance sheet at the side-door entrance.

  • You may park along the street. Enter the studio through the side door using your key. 

  • Please notify us when you plan to come by texting us.

 

Usage of equipment 

  • Please see the list of equipment and materials available in the studio.

  • Tools that are on display are available for everyone’s use. Please don’t use anything that is on the shelfs marked “not for shared use”

  • If you do not feel comfortable using any of the equipment ask studio staff for help.

  • If any equipment is jammed or broken please notify studio staff immediately.

  • Provide your own towel for personal use. Take your towel home to clean.

  • Please care for the studio equipment as you would for your own. Ask for help if you don’t know how to operate something.

  • Its your responsibility to clean all the tools after use and place them back where you got them from.

  • Turn OFF wheel when finished.

 

Clay: 

  • Only clay provided by the studio is allowed. Please see the list of the clays available

  • Use dedicated SIGNED buckets to recycle each type of clay. Save as much clay as possible, please don’t put clay into sink. 

  • For porcelain and black clay please use dedicated boards. 

 

GLASES

  • We have a number of dipping glazes as well as brush on for shared use.  

  • You MUST make sure you don’t contaminate glaze with other glaze.Proper use of glaze is important to prevent the contamination of wet glazes and/or dry materials.

    • If you are glazing a piece that has oxide, please pour over, do not dip this will contaminate the rest of the glaze. 

  • Please be mindful about the waste, preserve resources as much as you can. 

  • These glazes are meant to be used in small batches. Otherwise, you must purchase your own pre-mixed glazes.

  • Spraying, air brushing, and dusting is not permitted inside.

  • Studio glazes may occasionally run out. Please be aware that this could affect results from one project to the next.  *Please inform studio staff if a studio glaze bucket is empty or low.

  • Clean up the glaze area when finished. Wash and return tools.

  • Wash table tops. Mop the floor if necessary.

  • Check your pottery to make sure glazes are wiped off the bottom and ready for kiln.

    • Keep bottom ¼” of each piece glaze free, make sure to wipe any glaze off the bottom with a clean sponge. A fine of £30  will be charged for each piece found fused to the kiln shelves.

 

Firing you work

  • The kiln will be fired as it fills. 

  • At the moment we only have 1 small kiln, depending on the number of members we might have to limit the volume that is permitted for each member. 

  • Firings are 1000C for bisque; 1240C glazing. Special firings cab be arranged. 

  • The kiln is operated ONLY by the studio staff. 

  • The kiln’s become very hot. Do not touch while in operation. Never place objects on top or around the kilns.

  • Greenware will not be fired if it has not completely dried.

Cleaning

  • Please keep the studio clean. Each member must clean equipment after each use.

  • Provide (15+ minutes) at the end of your working time to clean up your area.

  • Clay dust must be cleaned up with wet rags or mops whenever possible.

  • Members are expected to keep dust agitation to a minimum. 

  • Clay dust is hazardous. *Do not sand bone-dry clay or glaze inside the studio, go outside (in the corridor that you come to the studio, not at the patio area). TIP: use a wet sponge to smooth your clay in the leather-hard stage.

  • Do not leave tools or equipment in the sink area.

  • Large yellow sponges (located above the sink) are used to clean table + wheel surfaces.

  • You are expected to clean the wheel thoroughly after each use. 

  • Sweep with a broom or sponge the floor around the wheel to leave the space clean for the next person.

  • Tools: Studio tools used during each session should be cleaned and returned to their correct storage place. If you find any tools that appear to be broken please inform your instructor.

 

Keeping work

  • As the studio is new, we are working out logistics and the number of members we can comfortably accommodate. Please be mindful about how much space you take: 

  • Studio ware shelves are not storage space. Please pick up your pieces as they finish.

  • Every member is responsible for his or her own property and art work. 

  • Anything left in the general studio space is susceptible to damage.

  • Please keep your work inside the shelf while not working on it.

 

Guests 

  • If you bring a visitor or guest to the studio, you are responsible for their behaviour and their adherence to the studio rules. Please notify studio owners in advance if you plan to bring a guest. 

    • Guests may not be working in the studio without paying hourly rate.

SAFETY & SECURITY

  • All exits can be used in the event of a fire.

  • Do not leave valuables in the studio. We are not responsible for your personal property.

  • In the event of a fire, please leave the building immediately through the nearest available exit and report to studio staff. Familiarise yourself with the location of the fire distinguisher and First-Aid kit.

  • All accidents, no matter how minor, should be reported immediately to the studio staff.

  • Shoes must be worn in and around the studio 

  • Abusive or violent behaviour will not be tolerated. Clayverse Studio reserves the right to cancel the participation of any individual in any program, including all members, who are considered to be a danger or exhibits unacceptable behaviour.

Noise/residential 

  • Studio is located in a residential area, please be mindful about our neighbours. Please keep loud noise and cell phone conversations to reasonable volume.

 

Socialising

  • Please respect and be considerate of others using the space, generally people are willing to interact, but please be mindful if people are focusing on their work and not willing to.
